Interpretations

I have selected a few of my works and written interpretations for viewers who wish to know more about my expressive intentions.  These short interpretive glimpses reveal my unique viewpoint and irrepressible creative imagination. They allude to the psychological energy in the work as much as the visual content. The atmospheric and  tangible signifiers I mention might be intentionally present, or they might be sub-consciously revealed nuances resulting from my use of automatism. By sharing my thoughts in these descriptive interpretations, I aim to offer the viewers more ways to access the deeper messages in my art.

In this section, i will also be including commentary or critiques written by others and either published or  shared with me directly.  I am grateful to receive interpretive contributions from viewers. Please connect with me by email if you would like to share your thoughts. I also invite inquiries that comment on or communicate a curiosity about the  content  or technical details my work.

Gazing at "Venus"

In this work, themes of connection, vulnerability, and the allure of external adornment are interwoven. The gentle-eyed Armadillo-like creature symbolizes the delicate balance and tension between one's self-constructed image and inner vulnerabilities. Adorned in opulent coverings reminiscent of ancient Egyptian ceremonial dress, Venus appears as a vision of beauty and allure, her body adorned with jewels and ornate patterns. However, beneath the layers of embellishment lies a child-like innocence and vulnerability evident in her delicate bare feet and sweet face, with

its hopeful, and hesitant expression. The cabinet door embedded in her shell suggests a hidden sanctuary within, a sacred space where her true self resides, away from the distractions of external adornment. The presence of the decorative but substantial chain encircling her body speaks to the constraints of societal expectations and the burdens of external validation. Yet, amidst this facade of beauty and adornment, Venus stands alone, her graceful ears tuned to the possibility of connection and partnership. In essence, "Venus" invites viewers to contemplate the complexities of identity, vulnerability, and the pursuit of connection in a world where external adornment often obscures the essence of the self. Through layers of opulent distraction, the artwork serves as a reminder of the beauty and fragility inherent in the human experience.

In "Sheep's Clothing"

A solitary lamb stands central and stalwart. Innocence encased, defined and directed by the intricate machinery that both decorates and binds  it. Young curious eyes are kept blinkered and focused on externally determined course. Though characteristic frolicking is diminished by this mechanistic cladding, enhancements in forward moving progress are guaranteed.  This transforming overcoat promises optimization unimaginable in simpler, woollier times. The lamb’s natural asset, with its insular warmth and perpetual, dependable regenerative nature now offers a comfortable seat for the added contraptions and constant updates that insidiously impose an alternate agenda.  This artwork serves as a profound meditation on the quiet acceptance of engineered gains and the authentic sacrifices.
