Artist Biography
Throughout my artistic career, I've consistently pushed the boundaries in pursuit of enhancing and extending my creative capabilities. Grounded in extensive academic studies and art-focused professional pursuits, my studio practice in Visual Art and Fine Craft has been enriched by a diverse range of experiences.
Having achieved honors and awards during my academic journey, which includes a BA in Art History, a BEd in Art Education, and an MEd in Visual Art, I've developed a deep understanding of artistic theory and pedagogy. This knowledge has allowed me to design comprehensive curricula for various visual arts-focused learning environments, ranging from public and independent schools to major art galleries and the Art Education department at the University of Victoria.
Through these professional experiences, I've had the privilege of imparting visual literacy, creative thinking, and art studio practices to countless students of all levels, while simultaneously expanding my own creative horizons across a wide range of art-making media. My past creative explorations have spanned large-scale ceramics, acrylic paintings, digital imagery, and fibre/textile design, each garnering an international following and finding appreciative homes with private collectors across the Pacific Northwest and Mexico. My current artistic focus lies in the traditional tools and techniques of Pyrography. Utilizing heated pens to draw on wood, I find solace in the simplicity of the toolset and the inherent precision it offers. Working with natural materials, I'm captivated by the atmospheric qualities and intricate details that flow from my burning pen.
